The city of Acworth and Aces counselors practiced and followed all COVID-19 safety guidelines to ensure the safety of the campers. The Aces Organization and the City of Acworth partnered for the first of 6 camps that were provided through the Acworth Sports Camp Series with a 3-day basketball camp on June 23rd through the 25th.  The campers were introduced to the fundamentals of basketball, learning dribbling, shooting, and defensive skills.  The campers ages ranged from 5-12 years old, while in groups they were assigned an Aces counselor that taught them the basics of basketball. This group of kids not only learned basketball but the Aces incorporated their values starting with having fun, how to respect the game, and how to respect your teammates!  Aces director, Kwame James insured that each kid left the gym with an appreciation for the game. Coach Kwame taught them to work hard with great energy, enthusiasm, and effort!

2 Time Los Angeles Lakers NBA Champion, Josh Powell Attends Atlanta Aces Practice

The Aces family had the privilege of former NBA player Josh Powell attend one of their practices at Lakepoint Champions Center in Emerson, Georgia.  Josh Powell attended Riverdale High School in Georgia to then move on to North Carolina State where he spent 2 years and was named ACC ALL-Rookie Team in 2002. Throughout Josh’s professional career he spanned the globe playing in countries such as Russia, Italy, Argentina, and China. Josh spent time on multiple NBA teams such as the Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, Golden State Warriors, and the Houston Rockets but most notably Powell won two NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers playing along side the legendary Kobe Bryant in 2009 and 2010.  The boys showed Josh everything the Aces are about, their energy, enthusiasm, and effort was in full effect. All the boys left the gym with valuable advice regarding the hard work it takes to achieve greatness. The Aces family look forward to partnering with Josh and utilizing all his basketball knowledge.
